Rio Rancho, Bernalillo Claim State Cheer Titles at the Pit
Rio Rancho won the 5A co-ed cheer title and Bernalillo took 1A-4A co-ed at the NM State Spirit Championships on March 22 at The Pit.

Three Albuquerque-area schools left The Pit with state cheerleading trophies Saturday, headlined by Rio Rancho's 5A co-ed championship and Bernalillo's 1A-4A co-ed title at the NM State Spirit Championships on March 22.
Rio Rancho's co-ed squad claimed the top spot in the 5A division, giving the school a state title in one of the most competitive cheerleading classifications in New Mexico. Bernalillo's program secured the 1A-4A co-ed crown, a combined division that draws squads from across the state's smaller-school classifications.
La Cueva also walked away a champion, taking the 5A cheer title to round out a strong showing for metro-area programs. The three schools claimed separate divisions at the event, with La Cueva's title representing a distinct category from Rio Rancho's 5A co-ed championship.

The competition drew other defending champions as well. Taos repeated as the 4A titleholder, Cobre defended its 3A crown, and Questa also took home a trophy, according to results from the event.
The Pit, UNM's arena in Albuquerque, served as the backdrop for the championships, with photographer Chancey Bush documenting the competition across dozens of frames from the event floor.
