Kitten rescued from Walmart engine in Casselberry, recovering from minor burns
A kitten trapped in a Casselberry Walmart engine suffered minor burns, but Seminole County crews pulled it free and rushed it for care.

A small kitten was pulled from a car engine in a Walmart parking lot in Casselberry after a call brought Seminole County Animal Services and the Seminole County Fire Department to the scene. Firefighters used Tower 25 in the rescue, and firefighter Robert Soto helped remove the animal from the engine compartment.
The kitten had minor burns on its paws, but officials said it was safe and recovering after being taken into custody by Seminole County Animal Services for veterinary care. No owner was on scene when crews arrived, and the rescue ended with the kitten out of the engine and in treatment rather than trapped in a hot mechanical compartment in the middle of a public parking lot.
The incident is a reminder of how quickly parked vehicles can become dangerous for animals in Florida. The ASPCA says a parked car can overheat even when the windows are cracked, and warns that it is never safe to leave an animal alone in a parked vehicle, even for a moment. It also says shade offers little protection because it moves with the sun, and a vehicle can still heat up when windows are left open an inch or two.
For Seminole County, the rescue also highlights the routine work done by animal services and firefighters beyond large emergencies. When stray pets do not have a microchip or identification, Seminole County says they are held for five business days before they become county property. After that, the animal is evaluated for temperament and health for adoption.
Before any pet enters the adoption area, Seminole County says its on-staff veterinarian spays or neuters the animal. The county’s Animal Services front desk can be reached at 407-665-5201 for questions about shelter animals. In this case, the kitten’s recovery moved quickly enough to avoid more serious injury, turning a tense rescue in a Casselberry parking lot into one more example of a small animal saved by a fast response.
