Grandmaster Y.K. Kim’s name has carried weight in Central Florida martial arts for decades, and it will anchor a big weekend gathering at Lake Brantley High School in Altamonte Springs. Organizers say the Martial Arts World Super Show will bring more than 750 participants and thousands of spectators to Seminole County, turning the school into a regional destination for competition, demonstrations and fundraising.

The event is scheduled for May 2 and is being held to benefit the MAW Foundation. Doors open at 7:30 a.m., competitor check-in is also set for 7:30 a.m., and the tournament is expected to finish around 6 p.m. Audience tickets are listed at $29.99 to $40, with a $60 dinner ticket, making the show as much a ticketed fundraiser as a martial arts showcase.

What makes this year’s Super Show different from a standard tournament is its mix of high-level competition and exhibition performance. The official event page says it includes the Exhibition Team World Championships, and the registration lineup includes individual action movie poomse, action movie breaking, action grappling, partner action movie sparring, Tiger Team demo and Eagle Team demo divisions. That combination gives families, students and longtime martial arts fans a reason to stay for the full day rather than just a single bracket.

Kim’s role is central to why the event matters locally. The MAW Foundation says it was founded by Supreme Grandmaster Y.K. Kim, whose mission includes fighting the overweight epidemic, offering martial arts and leadership training for underprivileged people and helping spread autism awareness. Martial Arts World says Kim founded Martial Arts World in Orlando in 1978, and its about page identifies him as a native of Seoul, Korea who also founded 5Fitness. The organization says his next goal is to build a four-year Martial Arts World University.

For Altamonte Springs, the draw is more than a spectacle. A crowd of thousands can mean a busier Saturday for nearby restaurants, coffee shops and stores, along with a steady flow of families, coaches and competitors moving through the area from early morning to evening. Lake Brantley High School will host not just another athletic event, but a long-running Central Florida martial arts brand that blends competition, youth participation and philanthropy into one spring gathering.
