Multiple Crashes Block Two Lanes on SR-436 in Altamonte Springs
A westbound crash trapping occupants inside a vehicle sent multiple people to hospitals and closed lanes on SR-436 at Westmonte Drive in Altamonte Springs Monday.

A westbound crash that left occupants trapped inside a vehicle shut down lanes on State Road 436 in Altamonte Springs Monday and drew a multi-agency emergency response, while a separate cluster of crashes near Howell Branch Road simultaneously blocked lanes further along the same corridor, according to Seminole Fire Rescue and FL511.
Seminole Fire Rescue confirmed the collision at the intersection of SR-436 and Westmonte Drive involved two vehicles and multiple occupants. One vehicle sustained what firefighters classified as light entrapment, requiring crews to work the scene before patients could be removed from the vehicle and treated. The Westmonte Drive location required closure of the left lanes in both the eastbound and westbound directions of SR-436, a configuration that gave Seminole County firefighters and emergency personnel adequate room to operate for several hours. Altamonte Springs police arrived and assisted Seminole County firefighters throughout the response.
Some patients from the Westmonte Drive crash were transported to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, Seminole Fire Rescue and FL511 confirmed. Seminole Fire Rescue was unable to confirm an exact number of patients transported or provide further description of individual injuries. No fatalities were reported at the scene.
While firefighters and police worked the Westmonte Drive wreck, a separate set of crashes on SR-436/Semoran Boulevard north near Howell Branch Road blocked two right lanes. FL511, the state-run traffic alert service, issued updates tracking both locations' disruptions late Monday. The notifications indicated that both crash sites were eventually cleared.
The dual-location crashes made for an extended period of disruption along SR-436/Semoran Boulevard, one of the primary arterials through Altamonte Springs and central Seminole County. Left-lane closures in both directions at Westmonte Drive combined with right-lane blocks near Howell Branch Road placed simultaneous restrictions on through traffic across separate sections of the corridor, with the combined response stretching several hours before agencies were able to clear both scenes.
Altamonte Springs police and Seminole Fire Rescue provided no information beyond the initial response. No vehicle types, contributing factors, or identities of those involved were released. No other details were shared or confirmed.
