Oviedo mural honors Power Rangers star Jason David Frank

A dragon-backed Green Ranger now covers the wall at Evolution Martial Arts Academy in Oviedo, turning a new gym into a public tribute to Jason David Frank and a landmark for Seminole County fans. The mural, about 15 feet wide and 9 feet tall, was painted by Andaluz The Artist, who traveled from New York and worked through the week with completion expected Thursday night.

The image centers on Tommy Oliver, the character Frank played for millions of Power Rangers viewers, but the design goes beyond nostalgia. The dragon-inspired artwork is meant to evoke strength, resilience and perseverance, which fits the setting of a martial arts academy and the message the business wants to project as it builds its name in Oviedo.

That business context matters. Evolution Martial Arts in Oviedo says it opened in 2026, and owner and instructor Tulu says the school is focused on teaching children and adults confidence, leadership and fitness through martial arts. The mural grew out of conversations with the owner, and the artist said part of the goal was to help bring traffic to the space. For a new local academy, the wall functions as both branding and a destination, turning fandom into something that can be seen from the street and photographed up close.

The timing also gave the project a broader community purpose. June is Men’s Health Month, and Men’s Health Week ran June 14-21, 2026, which helped frame the mural as more than a memorial. The artist said the message was meant to remind people, especially young men and women, that they are loved and supported. In a place built around discipline and physical training, the tribute links pop culture with emotional health and mentorship.

Frank died on Nov. 20, 2022, at age 49, and his legacy has continued to resonate with fans who knew him as a performer and martial artist. His official memorial site says proceeds from merchandise support mental health awareness, reinforcing why a mural in a martial arts setting can carry meaning beyond the franchise itself.

For Oviedo, the result is a new local memory site as much as a mural. It gives residents and visitors a reason to stop, look and connect a small business with a larger story about resilience, grief and community identity.
