Oviedo Seeks Artists for Centennial Mural and Boulevard Sculpture
The City of Oviedo Public Arts Board announced on November 24, 2025 two public art commissions, inviting artists to create a centennial mural at Center Lake Park and a sculpture for Oviedo Boulevard. These installations aim to mark the citys 100th anniversary, enhance the downtown pedestrian experience, and provide paid opportunities for artists while requiring materials and insurance suited to Florida weather.

The City of Oviedo Public Arts Board on November 24 unveiled two public art opportunities designed to celebrate the citys culture, history, and natural beauty. The first commission calls for a mural on the back of the Boat House at Center Lake Park with the theme "The 100th Anniversary of Oviedo and Beyond: Past, Present, and Future." The selected artist will receive a stipend of $3,000 and must use durable exterior paint suitable for Florida conditions. Proposals that reflect Oviedos community values and downtown landscape, and that are appropriate for a pedestrian friendly environment, are sought. Mural submissions are due by midnight on December 3, 2025.
The second commission invites a sculpture for a designated site on Oviedo Boulevard at Center Lake Lane, with artwork representing the flora and or fauna of Oviedo. Submissions may be pictorial or abstract, and may feature a single work or a grouped composition. The design and execution stipend for the sculpture is $25,000. Artists must provide liability insurance covering the full scope of the project, and use materials capable of withstanding heavy rain, hurricane force winds, sun, and humidity. Sculpture submissions are due by midnight on January 2, 2026.
Both projects will add permanent public art to a busy stretch of downtown, enhancing civic identity and creating new landmarks for residents and visitors. The mural highlights a milestone anniversary, offering a visible narrative of Oviedos past and aspirations for the future. The boulevard sculpture will contribute to streetscape character and can serve as a focal point for community events, commerce, and tourism.

For artists interested in applying, the city directs applicants to the City of Oviedo website, where separate pages host application materials for the mural and the sculpture projects. The commissions underline the citys investment in public art as part of downtown placemaking, while emphasizing resilience and safety through material specifications and insurance requirements suited to the regions climate.
