Seminole State Renames Softball Field After Former Coach Courtney Miller

Seminole State College dedicated its softball field as Courtney Miller Field in a ceremony that recognized three decades of leadership and success under the program’s longtime coach. Courtney Miller served as head softball coach from 1994-2024 and guided the Raiders to 19 FCSAA State Tournament appearances, a record the college cited as central to the renaming.

The dedication took place Saturday, Jan. 24, and featured an official ribbon-cutting attended by civic and college leaders. Sanford Commissioner Claudia Thomas, President Emeritus Ann McGee, current softball coach Rachel Minier, President Georgia Lorenz, Lake Mary Mayor David Mealor, and representatives from DACG, Inc. participated in the ceremony. Miller, who was inducted into the Florida College System Activities Association Softball Hall of Fame in May 2024, addressed the crowd with a statement the college published following the event. “I am deeply honored and truly humbled to have this field dedicated in my name. This place represents the best part of my life-a journey filled with unforgettable memories, meaningful moments and lifelong lessons. I hope it serves as a source of inspiration for young women and student-athletes to believe in themselves, embrace their journey, and pursue their goals with confidence and heart,” said Miller.

The college noted that DACG, Inc. donated a redesign of the field and a new entryway that now marks the facility. A ceremonial first pitch opened a doubleheader against Lake Sumter State College on the day of the dedication, linking the tribute directly to game-day traditions and providing an immediate public role for the renamed venue.

For Seminole County residents, the naming ties local civic leadership, college athletics, and community pride to a tangible campus landmark. Former players and community members who attended framed the dedication as both recognition of Miller’s coaching record and a recruitment and retention asset for Seminole State athletics. The college has not released further details on the redesign’s scope, cost, or whether additional commemorative displays will follow.
