Serious Crash Closes All Westbound Lanes on SR-426 in Seminole County
All westbound lanes on SR-426/Aloma Ave shut down near Aloma Woods in Oviedo after a serious Sunday crash, cutting off the primary westbound exit for more than 200 households.

A serious crash shut down every westbound lane on State Road 426 near the Aloma Woods community Sunday afternoon, paralyzing traffic along one of Oviedo's busiest east-west corridors while the Florida Department of Transportation pushed repeated alerts warning of significant delays.
The collision took place along the section of SR-426 known locally as Aloma Avenue, in unincorporated Seminole County near the southwestern edge of Oviedo. FDOT issued multiple traffic advisories on April 6 as the westbound lanes remained fully blocked, with no estimated clearance time announced publicly. Injury details and the number of vehicles involved were not confirmed by Sunday evening, and the agencies responding to the scene, whether Florida Highway Patrol or the Seminole County Sheriff's Office, had not been publicly identified.
The closure disrupted one of the area's most consequential local corridors at a particularly inconvenient hour. SR-426 in this stretch carries commuters westbound toward the State Road 417 interchange, UCF's main campus, Research Park, and the Oviedo on the Park district, serving as one of the primary through-routes in the east Seminole County residential belt. Drivers heading into Orlando from Oviedo with no access to I-4 or the 417 had few alternatives to the blocked lane configuration.
For residents of Aloma Woods, the disruption was especially direct. The community's entrance sits off SR-426 at Aloma Woods Boulevard, just south of W. Chapman Road in southwestern Oviedo. The Estates at Aloma Woods alone encompasses 183 residences within the larger Aloma Woods subdivision, which includes seven distinct communities positioned along the SR-426 corridor. The subdivision also sits near the Oviedo Medical Center, making SR-426 a critical access route beyond just the daily commute.
SR-426 carries a history of serious collisions in Seminole County. A crash in July 2023 shut down the road in all directions near Bertha and left a 70-year-old man dead, according to the Seminole County Fire Department.
The full cause of Sunday's crash, including any contributing factors, remained under investigation. FDOT's multiple afternoon alerts reflected the severity of the backup, though the department did not release recommended detour information in its advisories. Florida Highway Patrol and the Seminole County Sheriff's Office had not issued a formal incident statement by Sunday evening.
