A new Teachers Federal Credit Union branch at 850 South Sun Drive gives Lake Mary another full-service banking option and deepens a Florida expansion that is already reshaping the credit union’s footprint.

Teachers said the Lake Mary office is its third Florida location and part of a broader growth run that also included a Naples branch in 2025 and a Holbrook, New York branch the same year. The credit union said it planned additional Florida expansion later in 2026, alongside a Farmingville, New York relocation and expansion, signaling that Lake Mary was one stop in a larger branch strategy rather than a one-off opening.

The timing fits Seminole County’s business climate. Lake Mary has long marketed itself around business attraction, retention and expansion because local growth can create jobs and widen the tax base. In a city of 16,798 people in the 2020 Census, a new financial institution can have an outsized impact on daily convenience for residents who want a nearby branch, and for small businesses that still rely on face-to-face service when comparing loan options, cash-management products and deposit rates.

Teachers brought scale to the market. At the time of the Lake Mary announcement, the credit union said it had $9.9 billion in assets, more than 470,000 members, 30 full-service branches and members in all 50 states. It also said it surpassed $1.65 million in charitable contributions in 2025, a figure the organization points to as evidence of its community focus.

The branch also arrives with a national reputation that can matter in a local market. Teachers said Forbes named it to its America’s Best-In-State Credit Unions list for 2025, based on a Statista survey of more than 26,000 Americans. Fewer than 4% of credit unions nationwide made that list, giving the Lake Mary opening a brand-name boost as it competes for customers seeking lower-cost loans, competitive savings rates and personal service.

For Seminole County, the opening is another sign that Lake Mary remains attractive to financial and professional services firms looking for a regional foothold. Seminole County’s population was 470,856 in the 2020 Census, large enough to support new branches while still rewarding institutions that can win customers through convenience and local presence. Teachers’ move suggests the county’s banking market is still growing, and that competition for residents’ deposits and small-business relationships is getting sharper.
