A 45-year-old Deltona man was injured Thursday afternoon when his 2015 Lincoln Navigator overturned on State Road 417 south of the Red Bug Lake Road exit in Oviedo and was struck by a semitrailer, snarling southbound traffic for hours. The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 4:10 p.m. near mile marker 40, just after the Red Bug Lake exit.

“The FHP said the man was driving a 2015 Lincoln Navigator south on S.R. 417 south of Red Bug Lake Road in the inside lane.” Troopers said the SUV traveled onto the left shoulder, with the front left striking a crash attenuator; “the vehicle then overturned, traveled across the southbound lanes and was struck by a semitrailer,” according to the FHP account of the sequence.

The Deltona man “was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the FHP said.” Officials did not release his name or the hospital where he was treated. The driver of the commercial vehicle was identified as a 68-year-old man from Titusville; troopers said he was not injured and “stayed at the scene.”

Traffic on S.R. 417 south was shut down at and south of the Red Bug Lake Road interchange while crews cleared the wreckage and responders worked the scene. “A crash on SR-417 in Seminole County has shut down the southbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol,” and according to FHP statements the wreck “closed S.R. 417 south for hours but was later reopened.” No precise time for reopening has been released.

The Florida Highway Patrol is handling the investigation and has not released a cause or reported any citations. The crash report number, any findings about impairment, speed or mechanical failure, and the condition update for the Deltona man were not available; troopers simply noted that “the crash remains under investigation.” Seminole County motorists and those who travel between Oviedo and the Red Bug Lake Road area may see follow-up traffic advisories if FHP releases additional details.
