The UCF Knights celebrated a major program milestone when the softball team recorded its 900th victory while finishing a perfect 5-0 at the Charge On Classic, lifting its 2026 record to 20-4 through 24 games. The run through the tournament capped a week of upward movement in the national picture for the Black and Gold.

The Charge On Classic opened with a two-game sweep of Dartmouth on Thursday, and included a 9-5 victory over FAU, before the final day at the UCF Softball Complex. On Saturday evening, March 4, the Knights closed the weekend with a 5-1 win over George Washington and a 21-2 rout of Florida A&M at the Plex, combining for the franchise’s milestone 900th win and a prolific offensive display to finish the tournament undefeated.

Redshirt sophomore right-hander Isabella Vega provided the pitching highlight in the 5-1 victory over George Washington, spinning her second seven-inning complete game of the year, striking out 10 while allowing one run on six hits. Sanford Herald noted that Vega’s 10-strikeout outing was the first double-digit strikeout performance by a Knights pitcher this season, and that she joined freshman southpaw Hildie Dempsey as the second Knight to eclipse 40 innings pitched this year. Vega, a Bradenton native, was also named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after a dominant four-game stretch in which she did not allow an earned run and helped UCF earn its first ranked win of the season.

Head coach Cindy Ball-Malone praised Vega’s approach and competitiveness after the game: "Got her strikeouts in, she did a really good job with that, but what I love about Isa is she wants to get better with every game. I know she wanted to go for that shutout for her team. It’ll be a fun week because I know she’s going to get after it." Ball-Malone’s comments underscored Vega’s recent form and the pitching depth behind the freshman and redshirt sophomore arms.

Ball-Malone framed the pair of Saturday victories and the 900th win as a celebration of program continuity and pride: "Tonight (Saturday) were two games for the past, present and future. That is for any UCF Knight who has played here at the Plex or at the other facility. What a proud moment for the Knights program and anyone who’s played in it. Many more to come, and we’re excited for that, and the team knew what was at stake for today."

The sweep and milestone arrive as UCF prepares to open Big 12 Conference play: Nicholson Student Media noted the Knights were riding one of the best starts in program history and had climbed into the national rankings, checking in at No. 25 in Softball America’s Feb. 16 Top 25 poll after a 4-2 stretch. Another Nicholson preview listed UCF as No. 23 as the team headed to Stillwater to face No. 12 Oklahoma State in the conference opener, a step that will test the Black and Gold against ranked opposition following the Charge On Classic run.

With 900 program wins now in the record books and key contributors like Vega and Dempsey logging heavy innings, UCF enters conference play carrying offensive firepower and developing pitching depth that coach Ball-Malone says honors the program’s past while pointing toward sustained success.
