Downtown Duluth shooting injures man, police search for suspect
A man was hospitalized with extensive gunshot injuries outside R.T. Quinlan’s Saloon, and police said the shooter was still at large Sunday.

A shooting outside a longtime downtown Duluth bar left one man with extensive injuries Saturday night and sent police searching West Superior Street for the person responsible.
Duluth police were called around 9:40 p.m. Saturday to 220 West Superior Street, the address for R.T. Quinlan’s Saloon. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound and took him to a local hospital. Authorities said the victim’s injuries were extensive.
Investigators said early information indicated the suspect and the victim had argued before the shooting. By Sunday afternoon, no arrest had been made and the suspect remained at large, leaving one of the city’s busiest downtown blocks under the shadow of another violent incident.
The location is especially sensitive for downtown Duluth, where bars, restaurants and nearby businesses depend on steady foot traffic and a sense of safety after dark. A shooting at 220 West Superior Street does not stay confined to one doorway. It spills into the surrounding block, affecting workers closing up for the night, customers deciding whether to stay out longer and residents who pass through the area on foot or by car.
The case also comes amid recent concern over violent episodes in the city’s core. In June 2025, another downtown Duluth shooting left one man dead and two people in custody, a grim reminder that incidents in and around the downtown district can quickly reshape how people move through the area and how secure they feel there.
Police have not said whether Saturday’s shooting was targeted beyond the reported argument that preceded it, and the investigation was still active Sunday. For now, the central unanswered question is who fired the shot, and how a confrontation at R.T. Quinlan’s Saloon escalated into a gunshot wound severe enough to send a man to the hospital.
