According to the Duluth Police Department, officers responded at 12:35 a.m. to a report that a man was striking the side of a Mayo Ambulance and threatening paramedics in the vicinity of First Avenue West and First Street. An officer located the 22‑year‑old at First Avenue West and Second Street and attempted to detain him, and the man actively resisted arrest and stabbed the officer in the leg.

The officer suffered a stab wound to the leg that the department described as not life‑threatening, was transported to a local hospital for treatment and has since been released. News accounts from BringMeTheNews, CBS Minnesota and other local outlets echoed the department’s statement that the officer’s injuries were non‑life‑threatening and that hospital treatment was completed.

Officers took the 22‑year‑old into custody at the scene and lodged him at the St. Louis County Jail. Duluth News Tribune reported the suspect was lodged on preliminary charges of first‑degree assault, disorderly conduct, fleeing on foot, obstructing the legal process and public nuisance. Other outlets used similar language, describing the charges as pending or preliminary.

Initial dispatch and arrest locations are explicitly recorded in the department’s timeline: the disturbance call was in the area of First Avenue West and First Street and the suspect was located near First Avenue West and Second Street when officers attempted the arrest. Multiple local reports indicate the incident began with the man striking the ambulance and threatening the paramedics inside; there is no report that paramedics were physically harmed.

Officials have not released the type of weapon used in the stabbing, the officer’s name or rank, or the suspect’s name. Duluth News Tribune noted it does not typically name criminal suspects until they have been formally charged. It was not clear from the department’s release whether prosecutors had filed formal charges beyond the preliminary counts listed at booking.

The Duluth Police Department’s news release supplied the sequence of events reported by local outlets; KARE 11 labeled the situation developing and said the department posted about the incident on social media. As of the latest reports, investigators have not released body‑camera footage or additional details about whether Mayo Ambulance personnel filed separate incident reports. The St. Louis County Jail holds the suspect pending any formal filings by the St. Louis County Attorney’s Office.
