Duluth teen arrested near Gordon on attempted murder charges
Duluth police and Douglas County deputies arrested a 17-year-old near Gordon, Wisconsin, after a Duluth incident, putting a juvenile attempted-murder case before the courts.

A 17-year-old Duluth suspect was taken into custody near Gordon, Wisconsin, after Duluth police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office worked together on a pending attempted murder case tied to an incident in Duluth.
The arrest matters because it shows how quickly serious violent-crime investigations in the Duluth area can cross county and state lines. Duluth police say the department has about 158 officers and 40 support staff, backed by a 2025 budget of $29.258 million, and its public crime map shows reported incidents in the community over the past three years.

Under Minnesota juvenile procedure, prosecutors file a petition in district court, and a child held in a secure facility is generally brought to court within 36 hours of arrest. Felony charges require fingerprinting before the first appearance. Because the suspect is 17 and the allegation is serious, the case falls into the category that can draw limited public access, though certain filings and felony hearings may still be public. Prosecutors can also seek certification to adult court by motion after the delinquency petition is filed.
Authorities have not yet laid out the underlying facts of the Duluth incident, and they have not said whether other people are being investigated. For Duluth and St. Louis County residents, the immediate questions are whether the case stays in juvenile court, how quickly the first hearing is set, and how much of the record becomes public as the case moves forward.
The new arrest also fits a pattern that Duluth has seen before. In October 2012, Duluth police said a 17-year-old juvenile male wanted in an assault case was found near Poplar, Wisconsin, by a Douglas County deputy and was booked on second-degree attempted murder charges. In May 2013, Duluth and Superior police investigated a beating that started in Duluth and led to attempted-murder, assault and kidnapping warrants. In November 2022, Duluth police said a 19-year-old was arrested without incident on pending attempted murder, illegal firearm possession and fleeing charges, and described that case as isolated and involving people who knew each other.
The latest arrest now shifts the focus from the search to the courtroom, where the first filings will determine how much of the case the public gets to see.
