Fast-Moving Winter Storm Batters St. Louis County Northland, Causes Outages, Closures
Heavy, wet snow and strong winds struck the Northland Feb. 17–18, leaving hazardous roads, power outages and school and delivery disruptions across St. Louis County through Feb. 19.

A fast-moving winter storm dropped heavy, wet snow across the Northland during the overnight hours of Feb. 17 and into Feb. 18, bringing strong winds that knocked down branches, created whiteout conditions and produced hazardous travel across St. Louis County. County roads and secondary streets in Northland neighborhoods became treacherous as accumulation of wet snow combined with gusts, forcing many drivers to pull off until plows could respond.
Power outages spread through parts of St. Louis County as utility crews worked to restore service after the wet, heavy snow and wind caused downed lines and damaged infrastructure. Local officials reported intermittent loss of electricity in multiple Northland locations, with spot outages continuing into Feb. 19, 2026 as crews prioritized repairs on main feeders and known hazard areas.
Area school closures and delivery delays followed the storm, with the Timberjay reporting that multiple schools in the Northland canceled classes and that package and mail deliveries were delayed. District leaders cited unsafe travel and blocked routes on Feb. 18 and into Feb. 19 when deciding to close buildings and suspend normal transportation schedules for students in affected zones.
Beyond schools and deliveries, the storm produced broader service disruptions across St. Louis County, including interruptions to routine municipal operations and delayed appointments for county services. Wet-snow accumulation and wind-split tree limbs contributed to obstructed residential streets and slowed emergency-response travel times in several Northland neighborhoods during the height of the storm.
By Feb. 19, residents across the Northland continued to contend with the aftermath: clearing driveways, reporting outages, and waiting for deliveries delayed by the Feb. 17–18 storm system. Service providers and county road crews remained engaged in restoration and clearance work after a fast-moving system that transformed routine winter travel into a multi-day disruption for communities across St. Louis County.
