St. Louis County Deputies Rescue Three Lost Campers at Voyageurs National Park

Three adult men from Wisconsin were rescued without injury after becoming disoriented and losing their campsite in Voyageurs National Park on the night of March 13, calling for help around 10 p.m. from somewhere in the woods near Ash River Trail, where their vehicle was parked.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office confirmed the incident in a press release, noting that the men could not find their campsite after dark. A multi-agency response was launched, bringing together St. Louis County deputies, the St. Louis County Rescue Squad, and Voyageurs National Park Rangers to the Ash River Trail area.

The St. Louis County Rescue Squad used their equipment to locate the three adult men and brought them back to their vehicle without any problems. All three campers were safely transported out of the woods, and no injuries were reported.

The Ash River Trail corridor sits in the southern reaches of Voyageurs National Park, a remote wilderness preserve along the Minnesota-Canada border known for its dense boreal forest and sprawling waterways. The terrain can disorient even experienced outdoorsmen after nightfall, when trail markers and landmarks become difficult to identify.

The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office has not released the names, ages, or specific Wisconsin hometowns of the three men. The exact equipment the Rescue Squad deployed to locate them, the duration of the search, and the precise time the men were brought out of the woods were also not included in the press release.
