SuperiorMart Opens in Downtown Duluth, Filling Retail Gap for Workers
SuperiorMart opened Tuesday at 116 W Superior Street, becoming downtown Duluth's first convenience store since Snyder's Drug closed in the Holiday Center in late 2025.

Owner Fayez Tamim opened SuperiorMart at 116 W Superior Street on Tuesday, giving downtown Duluth its first convenience store since Snyder's Drug shuttered in the Holiday Center in late 2025 and left workers with no walkable option for a quick snack or grocery run.
Tamim said the closure of Snyder's shaped the decision to open. "There used to be a place called Snyder's, which everybody really liked," he said. "That's where everybody got their snacks and stuff. So hearing like from the community, that's something that we really wanted to do. But we worked a lot. We worked really hard these last few months, and we finally were able to get it open."
The shop sits on Superior Street between 1st and 2nd Avenue and carries a wide range of products, from snacks and dairy to cleaning supplies and pet food. Shelves stocked before opening day also included beef jerky, trail mix, chips, popcorn, soda and frozen meals, as well as grab-and-go items suited to morning and lunchtime foot traffic. While SuperiorMart is not a full grocery store, it carries grocery items and frozen meals.
The owners say the goal is to provide a quick and accessible way for residents and passersby to shop downtown. The location on the 100 block of West Superior Street places it within easy walking distance of office buildings, the Duluth Skywalk system and transit stops, removing the need for downtown workers to drive to a gas station or leave the central business district entirely during the workday.

The store is also currently hiring, with positions aimed at covering morning through early-evening shifts.
Snyder's closed in the Holiday Center last year, along with vending machines along the hallway corridor, leaving no quick option downtown for convenience items or snacks. SuperiorMart's opening on the East 100 block of Superior Street, directly across from Dubhlinn Irish Brew Pub, fills that gap and positions the store to capture foot traffic from neighboring businesses, municipal employees and convention visitors.
Tamim has signaled the shop will continue to evolve based on what customers request, with the product mix and hours subject to refinement in the coming weeks.
