Minnesota Duluth's Bulldogs arrived at Magness Arena on the University of Denver campus carrying momentum from one of the program's more emphatic postseason statements: a 5-1 dismantling of top-seeded North Dakota at Ralph Engelstad Arena in Grand Forks that sent shockwaves through the NCHC bracket.

The championship game against fourth-ranked Denver was scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, with the winner claiming an outright fourth Frozen Faceoff title. Heading into puck drop, UMD and Denver were knotted at three championships apiece, the most in conference history for either program.

Coach Scott Sandelin altered his line combinations for the semifinal against No. 2 North Dakota, and the gamble paid off in a lopsided fashion. The Bulldogs scored twice in the first period, added one in the second, and closed with two more in the third. Five different players found the net and seven different players recorded assists in the 5-1 final, a spread of production that reflected a team running on all cylinders entering the title game.

Forward Callum Arnott pointed to the blueprint from that North Dakota win as the model for Saturday night. "You know obviously if you can go in there and steal one in their building, it's obviously a lot of fun, kind of taking the crowd out of it early like we did in North Dakota," Arnott said. "I think that's the main thing, just kind of jump on them first before they do it."

Forward Luke Bibby echoed the emphasis on simplicity and physicality in the offensive zone. "I think just keeping our game simple. I think we did it very well when we were in North Dakota. Just getting pucks past the red line and getting them in. Then be hard on the forecheck," Bibby said.

UMD entered the final having lost three straight to Denver, an added layer of motivation beyond the championship stakes. The Bulldogs last lifted the Frozen Faceoff trophy in 2022, when they topped Western Michigan 3-0.

The game was broadcast on MY9 Sports, with radio coverage on KDAL 610 AM and 103.9 FM. Regardless of the outcome, UMD was set to hear its name on ESPNU at 2 p.m. Sunday during the 2026 NCAA tournament selection show, with bracketology projections suggesting a potential Sioux Falls regional placement if the Bulldogs fell short against Denver in the final.
