Calverton Man Indicted for Second-Degree Murder After Mother's Body Found in Blanket
Curtis Trent Jr., 36, was indicted March 6 on second-degree murder after his 63-year-old mother, Kathleen Trent, was found Feb. 11 wrapped in a blanket off Connecticut Avenue in Manorville.

A Suffolk County grand jury returned an indictment on March 6, 2026, charging Calverton resident Curtis Trent Jr., 36, with Murder in the Second Degree after the body of his mother, Kathleen Harrison Trent, 63, was discovered Feb. 11 in Manorville, prosecutors said. Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney announced the charges, which also include concealment of a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence.
Prosecutors say a relative visited the Forge Road home in Calverton on Jan. 29 and noticed what appeared to be blood in and around the house, and was unable to locate Kathleen Trent. One report states investigators learned she had been missing since Jan. 27. The next morning, Jan. 30, authorities say Curtis Trent Jr. returned to the Forge Road residence driving his mother’s 2017 Chevrolet Colorado pickup; officers impounded the truck and later documented blood on the tailgate.
On Feb. 6, investigators located various items of clothing believed to belong to the defendant on Mill Road in Manorville, and those clothes appeared to have blood on them. Officers also recovered bloody shoes from the Forge Road home. Prosecutors say those clothing items, the bloody shoes and swabs of blood taken from the victim’s truck were submitted to the Suffolk County Crime Laboratory for analysis.
The victim’s body was found Feb. 11 wrapped in a blanket about 25 feet off Connecticut Avenue in Manorville, and an autopsy determined the cause of death to be stab wounds to the torso, face and neck. Daily Voice reported that Kathleen Trent’s car was missing from the home while her wallet, phone and important medications remained inside, and that investigators found a blood-stained male shoe at the residence.

Daily Voice and syndicated outlets reported an arrest in the case on Feb. 25, 2026; the arrest date is included in public accounts of the investigation. On March 6, Curtis Trent Jr. was arraigned before Acting Supreme Court Justice Richard I. Horowitz and ordered held without bail during the pendency of the case.
The indictment lists one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A felony, and two Class E felony counts for concealment of a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence. If convicted of the top count, Trent faces a sentence of 25 years to life in prison. TBR News Media has identified the defendant’s attorney as Tara Laterza, Esq.; court records and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office list the next court date as April 22, 2026, when pretrial scheduling and motions are expected to be addressed.
