A 2022 BMW SUV crashed through the front of a residence on Nostrand Avenue in Central Islip just after 2 a.m. on March 15, coming to rest a few feet from a bedroom where a family with six children, the youngest only two months old, had been sleeping.

Estefany DeJesus, 30, of Central Islip, was driving southbound on Birchgrove Drive when she lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway, and plowed into the home at 528 Nostrand Avenue at approximately 2:10 a.m. Suffolk County Police Third Precinct officers responded to the scene and determined DeJesus was impaired. She was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for evaluation. She was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip later that same day.

The impact jolted awake everyone inside the house. Johana Moreno, whose bedroom the vehicle nearly reached, described the moment the BMW broke through: "The window like exploded." Her sister Selina recounted that her husband heard the crash and shouted, "Oh call 911, a car crashed into our house," prompting Selina's stunned reply: "I'm like, 'what?!'"

The collision did not end with the initial impact. Selina told ABC7 that at one point DeJesus hit the gas instead of reverse, pushing the vehicle further into the structure. Selina also recalled DeJesus screaming and saying her boyfriend was following her. "She says her boyfriend was following her. She was screaming. I told her, 'calm down, calm down!'" Selina said.

No residents were injured. The Fire Marshal and the Town of Islip Building Inspector responded to 528 Nostrand Avenue to assess structural damage, which was described as significant. No official determination on the home's habitability had been released in initial reports.

Specific field sobriety or chemical test results have not been publicly disclosed. The identity and status of the boyfriend DeJesus referenced remain unknown, and no additional charges had been reported as of the initial coverage. The arraignment outcome, bail conditions, and any further counts filed at First District Court in Central Islip have not yet been confirmed.
