Crime Stoppers seeks suspect in Middle Island Walmart theft
Police are seeking a man accused of stealing about $360 in clothing from the Middle Island Walmart, with up to $5,000 offered for tips.

A Middle Island Walmart theft worth about $360 has put Suffolk County Crime Stoppers back on the hunt for a suspect, and investigators are asking shoppers and workers to help identify the man seen taking clothing from the store.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and the Suffolk County Police Sixth Precinct Crime Section said the theft happened at Walmart, 750 Middle Country Road, on February 17 at about 6:10 p.m. The case was posted publicly as CW 26-097 on May 13, 2026, as police continued to seek a lead strong enough to make an arrest.

The loss may sound small compared with larger retail crime cases, but for neighborhood stores and the people who shop there, repeated thefts add up fast. Even a few hundred dollars in merchandise can mean higher operating costs, more security, and tighter controls on what is left on shelves and racks. In busy corridors like Middle Country Road, shoplifting also pulls store staff away from customers and puts more pressure on police to use surveillance and community tips to close the gap.
Crime Stoppers said tips are 100% anonymous and can be submitted by phone at 1-800-220-TIPS (8477), through a mobile app, or online. The organization said cash rewards of up to $5,000 may be awarded if a tip leads to an arrest. Suffolk County Crime Stoppers, which was created in 1994, said the reward system is meant to help turn ordinary observations into usable cases.
The Sixth Precinct, based in Selden, handles misdemeanor and violation offenses within its precinct, including the type of petty larceny now under review. Police have not identified the suspect publicly and are relying on the public to help narrow the search.
The Middle Island Walmart has surfaced in a similar Crime Stoppers alert before. In October 2025, police sought help in another theft case tied to the same store, and that notice said the suspect was believed to have stolen from several Walmart locations across Suffolk County. For investigators, that kind of pattern can matter as much as the value of the merchandise, because it can point to repeat activity across Long Island and make a single store part of a wider enforcement effort.
