Noel Bermudez-Chin, 18, of East Northport, is charged with second-degree murder after Suffolk County police say he fatally stabbed his grandmother's fiancé, Joseph Falvo, multiple times inside a trailer parked in the driveway of a Catherine Street home early Sunday morning.

Officers from the Third Precinct responded to the Catherine Street address at 3:42 a.m. on March 29 and found Falvo with multiple stab wounds inside the trailer. He did not survive. Bermudez-Chin, the grandson of Falvo's fiancée, had left the scene by the time officers arrived but was located and taken into custody a short time later on Laurel Hill Road in Northport. He was transported to the Third Precinct, where he remains held pending arraignment.

Bermudez-Chin is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday, March 30. The second-degree murder charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years to life under New York State law. The Suffolk County District Attorney's office will present the formal complaint at arraignment, at which point a judge will determine bail or remand status.

Detectives are continuing to process the Catherine Street scene, conduct witness interviews, and collect forensic evidence. Investigators have not publicly disclosed a motive, and the DA's office has not commented on the case beyond confirming the charge.

For the Huntington Township community, the case raises unavoidable questions about the circumstances that brought Bermudez-Chin into the same household as Falvo and whether any prior incidents were reported to police. Those details are part of the active investigation and are expected to surface through court filings as the case moves through the Suffolk County criminal justice system.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Suffolk County Police Homicide detectives. The victim's family has not yet made a public statement.
