Farzeen Bham Launches Campaign for NY Senate District 1 Prioritizing Affordability
Coram native Farzeen Bham launched a Democratic bid for NY Senate District 1, centering affordability, health care access and coastal protection for Long Island residents.

Farzeen Bham, a Coram native and 2025 Stony Brook University political science graduate, announced a campaign for New York State Senate District 1, making affordability the centerpiece of his platform and pledging a hands-on approach to constituent service.
Bham casts the race as an effort to redirect state priorities and funding toward local needs across northern Suffolk County - from northern Brookhaven through Riverhead and across the North and South Fork. His campaign calls for using state dollars to make housing more attainable for working families and proposes converting abandoned commercial properties into new homes as one explicit step toward that goal. The campaign frames its message with language such as "Delivering Real Solutions for a Sustainable, Accessible Long Island" and the slogan "INVEST IN A LONG ISLAND YOU CAN ACTUALLY AFFORD."
Bham’s biography emphasizes community roots and volunteer work. Born at Stony Brook Hospital to Pakistani immigrants and raised by a single mother, Bham volunteered with the Domestic Harmony Foundation and received the President’s Volunteer Service Award in 2022; local Legislator Steven Englebright presented the award. Bham currently works as a paralegal representing plaintiffs in medical malpractice claims and has experience on campaigns and in party youth leadership, including serving as deputy campaign manager for local candidates and chairing the Brookhaven Town Young Democrats.
Policy priorities beyond housing include health care expansion, environmental protection with attention to coastal erosion prevention, and support for small businesses. The campaign has signaled a push to "redirect Long Island funding priorities toward local needs" including schools, roads and environmental projects. On constituent engagement, Bham pledged a calendar of public meetings, saying, "If elected, I want to be the state senator who is available… for all the residents," and that he will be "doing town halls at every single town."
Prismedia reported the campaign announcement occurred on Jan. 13 and identified Bham as 23 years old. Ballotpedia lists Bham as a Democratic candidate for the June 23, 2026 primary, with the general election slated for Nov. 3, 2026; Ballotpedia also records Bham’s earlier 2022 state Senate run, which reported $4,250 in contributions and no expenditures that cycle.
Campaign fundraising materials emphasize grassroots support and contrast Bham with established donors, stating, "Farzeen isn't taking checks from the people who broke the affordability of Long Island, he's taking charge of the families who want to fix it." The campaign is soliciting small-dollar contributions and asking supporters to join its outreach efforts.
For District 1 voters, the race will test whether affordability and local-first funding priorities can sway a district that stretches from the suburban corridors of northern Brookhaven to the more rural and coastal communities of the East End. With primary filings and town halls expected to shape the calendar, Suffolk County residents should watch candidate forums, fundraising disclosures and schedules for the promised town meetings to assess how each contender plans to translate broad pledges into specific legislative action.
