Main Event opens in Deer Park, bringing first New York location to Suffolk County

Main Event has turned Tanger Outlets Deer Park into more than a shopping stop. The Texas-based family entertainment chain opened its first New York location in Suffolk County on May 18, bringing a 46,189-square-foot leisure complex to 1150 The Arches Circle, next to Saks Off 5th and Regal Cinemas.

The draw is as much sound and motion as it is square footage. Inside, the venue is built around bowling, laser tag, arcade games, billiards, gravity ropes and food-and-bar offerings, a mix that is designed to keep families, birthday groups and night-out crowds in the building longer than a typical retail visit. Main Event marked the launch with a ribbon-cutting at 11:45 a.m. before opening its doors at noon. The first 200 guests in line were promised free laser tag for a year.

For Deer Park, the opening adds a major entertainment anchor to a corridor already driven by foot traffic and discretionary spending. Tanger says its Deer Park property is New York’s most-visited outlet shopping destination, with 5.8 million annual visits and a trade area population of 1.7 million, figures that help explain why Main Event chose the site for its first foothold in the state. The location gives the brand access to shoppers already coming from across Suffolk County and beyond, rather than relying only on immediate neighborhood traffic.

The company has spent more than two decades building that model. Main Event opened its first center in Lewisville, Texas, in 1998 and grew into a chain with 50 operating locations nationwide before Dave & Buster’s acquired it in 2022 in a deal valued at $835 million. The Deer Park site is part of that larger push to combine entertainment, dining and group events under one roof.

At the local level, the new venue is aimed squarely at family outings and celebrations. Greater Long Island reported that the Deer Park location includes 24 bowling lanes, three party rooms, a VIP room and a full game room, making it a fit for bar and bat mitzvahs, Sweet 16s, adult parties and other gatherings.
