Sunapee’s highway and buildings staff will move to a four-day summer schedule April 23, closing both departments on Fridays as the town leans into the season when daylight lasts longer and field work gets easier to manage.

Under the new schedule, the Sunapee Highway Department and Buildings & Grounds Department will work Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The town said the change is meant to make the most of available daylight and support efficient operations, a practical shift for a department that handles core public works responsibilities across town.

That matters because the Highway Department’s mission reaches well beyond routine road cleanup. Its work includes town highways, sidewalks, stormwater collection systems, bridges, dams, intersection signalization and other town infrastructure. When the schedule tightens to four days, residents and contractors with road concerns, maintenance questions or requests that need staff follow-up will have to plan around the Monday-through-Thursday window, especially if they need a site visit or expect a response before the weekend.

The town listed Jenn McClaine, also identified as Jennifer McClaine, as highway business manager and the contact for questions at 603-763-5060, option 1. Sunapee also lists the Highway Department address at 621 Route 11, a useful detail for anyone needing to route a concern to the right office instead of waiting until the next workweek begins.

The timing fits Sunapee’s seasonal pattern. The town used the same summer schedule in 2025, starting April 24, and a 2024 notice listed winter hours as Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sunapee also lifted posted road restrictions on April 17, just before the summer schedule takes effect, a sign the town is moving out of mud season and into the heavier maintenance months when road work, drainage tasks and facility upkeep are easier to coordinate.
