Park City School Board President Meredith Reed Enters County Council Race
Meredith Reed, president of the Park City Board of Education, announced on December 31, 2025, that she is running for a seat on the Summit County Council. Her campaign centers on community well-being, effective governance and collaboration on housing, transportation and planning issues that affect county residents.

Meredith Reed, who currently serves as president of the Park City Board of Education, formally announced her candidacy for the Summit County Council on December 31, 2025. Reed framed her campaign around bringing her record of organizational leadership and service to county government, saying the board and county face a set of consequential policy decisions that require thoughtful collaboration.
“We have a series of critical decisions ahead of us,” Reed said. “It’s important that we view issues like housing, transportation and future planning through a lens of thoughtful, healthy collaboration, which has been the hallmark of my career in the military, in private and public industry, and in elected and volunteer community service.”
Reed identified community well-being, effective governance and responsiveness to resident values as central campaign themes. She positioned her school-board experience as a foundation for county policymaking, noting the board’s emphasis on engaging taxpayers during budget deliberations. “I’m proud of our board’s collaborative approach to placing importance on community and taxpayer feedback as we determine budget allocations,” she said. “Together, we continue to enhance public education, with a focus on student outcomes, healthy leadership, and community trust.”
Her professional and volunteer background spans military service, nonprofit leadership and private-sector work. Reed served as a commissioned chaplain in the United States Air Force Reserve and was stationed primarily at Landstuhl Medical Center in Germany, where she provided pastoral care to wounded service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, their families and medical staff. She later held senior leadership and advisory roles supporting wounded service members and military families at the national level. After returning to Park City in 2017, Reed became a small business owner and a realtor with Coldwell Banker. She currently serves as programming director and a board member for the Park City Rotary Club and sits on the Park City Chamber of Commerce board.
As she seeks a seat on the county council, Reed emphasized governance practices she said matter to how residents experience local government. “Leadership matters. Organizational management matters,” said Reed. “The quality of leadership directly affects how residents experience local government and the services it provides. When local government officials lead well, thoughtfully, transparently and with integrity, our entire community benefits.”
Reed’s entry adds a candidate with direct experience in education budgeting, intergovernmental collaboration and community organizations to a conversation already focused on housing affordability, transportation planning and responsible growth. Her campaign will likely test how school-board leadership translates to broader county responsibilities, and voters will weigh whether her management priorities address the county’s fiscal and infrastructure challenges as the 2026 election cycle approaches.
