Sheriff Investigates Body Found Near Browns Canyon Road in Summit County
A body found March 26 on an isolated stretch of High View Road near Browns Canyon Road remains unidentified as the Summit County Sheriff's Office investigates.

Sgt. Skyler Talbot confirmed a body was found March 26 on High View Road in the Browns Canyon corridor of eastern Summit County, while the Sheriff's Office released almost nothing further: no identity of the deceased, no cause of death, and no account of who made the discovery.
"There is no known threat to public safety at this time," Talbot said. The investigation remained in its early stages, he said, with "no additional information available to share," including who found the body or its precise location on High View Road.
Deputies had not identified the deceased as of Thursday afternoon. No cause or manner of death was disclosed, and the Sheriff's Office made no indication of whether the death was being treated as suspicious or as part of a criminal inquiry. Authorities did not confirm whether a medical examiner had been involved.
High View Road sits on the north side of Browns Canyon, roughly three miles from the town of Peoa and four miles east of state Route 248. Browns Canyon Road heads east toward Peoa through a stretch of quarry operations, industrial businesses, and animal rescue organizations. The area is not densely populated with homes, a landscape far removed from the resort communities of the Wasatch Back.

The Summit County Sheriff's Office, which has jurisdiction over unincorporated Summit County, had deputies and investigators working the case in the days following the discovery. The office announced no road closures, scene restrictions, or requests for public tips.
The identity of the person found on High View Road and the circumstances of the death remained unknown, with the Sheriff's Office giving no indication of when that might change.
