The Summit County Democratic Party will hold its 2026 caucuses on Tuesday, March 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. at three locations spanning the county: the Park City High School cafeteria, the Kamas Library's community room, and North Summit Middle School in Coalville.

The party is opening the doors to everyone, regardless of party registration. Democrats, Republicans, independents, and unaffiliated voters are all welcome to attend. The caucuses serve as the first step in selecting 2026 county election candidates, with attendees gathering in precinct meetings to nominate and elect precinct delegates who will cast votes at the county convention on April 7.

Those attending the Park City High School caucus will have an earlier opportunity to get involved. A signing party begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Park City School District location, where the League of Women Voters will be on hand to assist with voter registration.

The Summit County Democratic Party is encouraging attendees to preregister online at tinyurl.com/45sfpe3b and to arrive knowing their precinct number, which can be looked up at tinyurl.com/pp6t29hn. A photo ID is required for entry. Voters who want to register as Democrats before the caucus can change their party affiliation online at tinyurl.com/3spm2eab.

Beyond the county level, the caucuses also serve as a recruiting ground for state delegates. In precinct meetings, the party collects names and signatures from volunteers interested in serving as state delegates, who commit to attending the Utah State Democratic Convention on April 25. State delegates vote to elect candidates for the Utah State Legislature and can also shape party policy by voting to amend the State Party Platform. Those interested in becoming a state delegate can apply online at tinyurl.com/48tdn4bw.

"Community Caucus Night is an opportunity to meet with your party leaders, candidates, friends, and neighbors to help strengthen our Democratic Party in Summit County," the party writes on its website, scdems.org. "This is grassroots organizing, and it's where change begins."

For those considering running as a delegate, preparation matters. Prospective delegates are advised to canvass their precincts beforehand, identify roughly 20 supporters from their precinct who can show up and vote for them on caucus night, and prepare a brief speech explaining why neighbors should choose them. Delegate contests in some precincts can draw large crowds, making advance organizing critical.

The Summit County Democratic Party can be reached at info@scdems.org or by mail at PO Box 982961, Park City, UT 84098.
