Summit County Health Issues Measles Advisory After Exposures at Two Local Sites
Summit County Public Health confirmed measles exposures at Park City Hospital on March 2 and Deer Valley's Silver Lake Lodge on March 8, warning unvaccinated residents face a 90% infection risk.

Summit County Public Health issued a local measles advisory March 18 after state and county investigators confirmed two separate exposures at Park City Hospital and Deer Valley Resort's Silver Lake Lodge, warning that unvaccinated residents face a 90 percent chance of contracting the disease if they come near an infected person.
The two exposures were confirmed at distinct locations nearly a week apart. The first occurred at Park City Hospital on March 2. The second was confirmed at Silver Lake Lodge at Deer Valley Resort on March 8. The advisory followed what the Summit County Health Department described as a recent uptick in measles cases and community exposures across the county.
Health officials underscored the particular danger measles poses in public settings: the virus can spread before an infected person shows any symptoms and can linger in the air for up to two hours. That combination makes exposure at a hospital or a busy ski lodge especially difficult to trace and contain.

The advisory urged residents to review their vaccination status and monitor for symptoms. It focused specifically on prevention, symptom awareness, and limiting potential spread.
Anyone who visited Park City Hospital on March 2 or Silver Lake Lodge on March 8 and is unsure of their immunization history should contact the Summit County Health Department to assess their risk and next steps.
