Utah Highway Patrol troopers arrested both drivers involved in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 80 near the Lambs Canyon off-ramp late Thursday night, with one suspect requiring a physical struggle before being taken into custody.

Troopers received calls reporting a crash with injuries near mile marker 136 on I-80 at about 11:50 p.m. on March 12. When they arrived, they found one suspect vehicle near the Lambs Canyon off-ramp. During their investigation, troopers determined the collision involved two vehicles and that one driver had traveled the wrong way a short distance before the crash.

The arrest of at least one driver did not go smoothly. According to troopers, the suspect was non-compliant with officers and had to be wrestled to the ground before being taken into custody.

Both drivers were ultimately arrested on DUI charges. The crash involved injuries, though authorities had not released details on the number of people hurt, the severity of their injuries, or whether anyone was transported to a hospital.

The identities of the two drivers had not been released as of this reporting. No additional charges, such as resisting arrest, had been publicly confirmed as of the initial reports.

The stretch of I-80 through Summit County has seen multiple wrong-way incidents in recent months. A separate crash in Parley's Canyon on February 16 resulted in a 29-year-old man being booked into Salt Lake County Jail on charges of driving the wrong way while under the influence and negligently operating a vehicle resulting in injury, after a Ford F-150 he was driving struck a van and forced it to overturn. That incident is unrelated to the March 12 crash near Lambs Canyon.
