Texas County GOP to host Mazzei, Edwards at April 20 meeting
Mazzei and Edwards will share a Guymon stage as Texas County voters are asked to weigh roads, taxes, water and Panhandle priorities before the 2026 primary.

Texas County Republicans will bring gubernatorial candidate Mike Mazzei and county Commissioner Darrell Edwards to the Disciple Center in Guymon as the local party uses its April 20 meeting to push voters toward the June 16 Republican primary. The gathering at 802 N Quinn is part of a regular meeting pattern the party has used to connect local voters with statewide Republican figures, including Attorney General John O’Connor and state Superintendent Ryan Walters.
Mazzei enters the room as a candidate trying to build name recognition outside Oklahoma City and the larger metro counties. He launched his campaign in April 2025, served in the Oklahoma Senate from 2004 to 2016, and later became Oklahoma secretary of budget. His campaign has focused on education reform, tax cuts and protecting Oklahoma land from foreign ownership, issues that will draw scrutiny in Texas County as voters weigh what those priorities would mean for rural schools, agriculture, county revenue and landowners in the Panhandle.
Edwards, the sitting Texas County Commissioner for District 1, will also give voters a chance to question an incumbent who works closest to the county’s day-to-day basics. District 1 commissioner duties include county roads and bridges, county budgeting and participation in Board of County Commissioners meetings. Texas County’s current commissioner lineup also includes Dolan Sledge in District 2 and Levi Bickford in District 3, so the April 20 appearance places one member of the county board directly in front of the Republican base before election season accelerates.
For residents trying to judge both state and local leadership, the most important issues are likely to be practical ones: which roads need the next stretch of work, how county taxes and state aid are being handled, what support Texas County can expect for water and agriculture, and whether a future governor will treat the Panhandle as a priority or an afterthought. Mazzei’s record in the Legislature and budget office gives him credentials on state finances; Edwards’ role on the county commission ties him to the conditions voters see every day.
Past Texas County GOP notices have placed meetings and events at the Disciple Center, 802 N Quinn, at 6 p.m. unless otherwise noted. A recent party Facebook post listed this meeting with a business session at 5 p.m. and a free-will potluck soup and stew supper at 6 p.m., underscoring how the party is using the familiar Guymon venue to turn a routine gathering into an early organizing stop for 2026.
