I-84 Road Maintenance Near North Powder Causing Brief Delays
Brief delays on I-84 near North Powder put workers on the highway; ODOT urges drivers to slow down or move over.

Maintenance operations on I-84, one mile west of North Powder, were generating delays of less than 20 minutes according to the Oregon Department of Transportation's TripCheck system, which last updated the listing at 8:37 p.m. on March 5.
ODOT's advisory was direct: "Prepare to slow or move over for worker safety." The same instruction appeared across multiple concurrent maintenance notices on the corridor that evening, underscoring how frequently crews were present along the interstate.
The North Powder work was one of several simultaneous maintenance events tracked on I-84. A separate westbound stretch between mileposts 210 and 193, near the intersection with the Pendleton-John Day Highway on US-395, also carried an estimated delay under 20 minutes, with one median lane affected in the westbound direction. Another maintenance listing covered a westbound segment near milepost 38.5 to 37.5, roughly seven miles west of Cascade Locks.
Road surface conditions posed no additional hazard at the time. TripCheck reported zero new snow and zero roadside snow as of 8:03 p.m. on March 5. A weather station at US-197 milepost 3.6 near The Dalles showed partly cloudy skies, bare pavement, and a temperature of 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
Further west along I-84, a longer-term construction project near Warrendale remained in effect. ODOT is replacing the aging bridge carrying I-84 over McCord Creek, approximately six miles east of Multnomah Falls, with the work expected to run through 2026. The eastbound on-ramp from NE Frontage Road and Highway 100 at Warrendale closed March 1 and is not expected to reopen until July 7, 2026. During the bridge work, one lane remains open in each direction on that stretch.
Drivers heading through the North Powder area on I-84 should check TripCheck before traveling for the most current lane and delay status.
