La Grande to Close Washington Avenue, Depot Street March 17 for Water Line Work
Starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday, La Grande will shut down the Washington-Depot intersection for new water line excavation; Post Office access shifts to Elm and 6th.
Washington Avenue and Depot Street will be closed Tuesday, March 17, starting at 6 a.m., as La Grande Public Works crews excavate and install a new water line inside the intersection of Washington and Depot.
The closure covers Washington Avenue from 4th Street to Elm and Depot Street from Adams to 5th Street. No traffic will be permitted to enter the Washington-Depot intersection until work is finished and crews have left the work zone. The city has not specified an end time or estimated project duration.
Drivers and pedestrians heading to the Post Office can still reach it via Elm and 6th streets, which remain open during the closure. La Grande Public Works is asking everyone to avoid the area if possible, citing safety for both the public and utility workers on site.
