Junior midfielder David Krumov of Bucknell University earned national academic recognition when he was selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All America Second Team on December 16, 2025. Krumov is the ninth student athlete in Bucknell program history to attain Academic All America honors, and the first since Matt Thorsheim earned third team recognition in 2020. The announcement capped a season in which Krumov combined strong athletic contributions with outstanding scholarship.

A Dallas native and computer science major, Krumov maintained a perfect 4.00 grade point average while playing an important role in the Bucknell midfield for the past three seasons. This year he was an all Patriot League Third Team selection, and he recorded two assists including game winning assists in matches against Holy Cross and Saint Francis. He was also named to the Academic All Patriot League Team and the CSC Academic All District Team, and he is a two time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.

To qualify for Academic All District and Academic All America honors students must be at least sophomores with a minimum 3.50 grade point average and have participated in ninety percent of the team s games or started sixty seven percent of the team s games as of the November 18 nomination deadline. Krumov met those rigorous standards while majoring in one of the university s most demanding fields.

For Union County the recognition carries practical and symbolic significance. It showcases Bucknell s ability to develop student athletes who contribute to local life on multiple fronts, from competitive athletics to the future STEM workforce. Local students and families may see Krumov as a tangible example that sustained academic achievement and high level sport can coexist, which can inform expectations for youth programs, school counselors, and community support systems.

The honor also raises questions about equity and access. Ensuring that more local students have pathways into rigorous majors and organized athletics requires commitment from schools and policymakers to fund academic advising, mental health services, and affordable preparatory programs. As Bucknell celebrates one of its own, the wider community can use this moment to think about how resources are distributed to support similar success for a broader range of Union County youth.
