Edward "Ed" Sterling Bastuscheck, 86, died at 12:35 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2025, at WellSpan Evangelical Hospital in Lewisburg. Born Nov. 1, 1939, in Bellefonte, he was the son of the late Sterling A. and Mildred P. Bastuscheck and had lived in Mifflinburg before moving to Lewisburg.

Bastuscheck married Patricia Styers on Dec. 30, 1961, and she survives him. He graduated from Mifflinburg High School in 1957 and spent his working life in local industry and small business. He worked as a cameraman and darkroom technician at Moore Business Forms in Lewisburg until his retirement in 1995, and he owned and operated Bastuscheck Photo Services, providing photography services to families and businesses across the region.

His community involvement extended beyond his profession. He was a 76 year member of Mifflinburg United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Council and other committees. He was a founding member of the Buffalo Valley Sportsmen's Club and served as a Boy Scout leader for Troop 520 for 21 years, mentoring youth in outdoor skills and civic responsibility. He also volunteered as a Meals on Wheels delivery driver for Union County, helping provide food and contact to homebound residents. Family and friends recall his interests in landscaping and gardening, activities that complemented his service oriented life.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, 279 Market Street, Mifflinburg. The funeral will begin at 11 a.m., with burial to follow at Mazeppa Union Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Mifflinburg United Methodist Church. Arrangements are by Roupp Funeral Home.

Bastuscheck's blend of professional craft and volunteer commitment reflected a pattern of civic engagement that sustained local institutions, from churches to scouting to senior services. For residents who relied on Meals on Wheels and for generations of scouts he mentored, his passing marks the loss of a steady community presence.
