Homestead Heights of New Berlin joins LeadingAge PA in Union County

Homestead Heights of New Berlin joined LeadingAge PA on July 14, putting the Union County senior living project inside a statewide network that says it represents more than 400 senior housing, health care and community services providers. The association says those members serve more than 75,000 older Pennsylvanians and employ more than 50,000 caregivers every day.

For Union County families weighing elder-care options, the timing matters because Homestead Heights says its building is finished, it has received its occupancy permit and its application for an assisted living license is being processed. The faith-based community describes itself as offering a continuum of care for older adults in a rural setting, and it is already offering tours to interested visitors in New Berlin.

The practical value of joining LeadingAge PA is likely to show up in the background work that shapes senior care, from advocacy and policy conversations to staffing support and aging-services resources. For a rural county where families often try to keep parents and grandparents close to home, being tied into a statewide association can help a new provider stay plugged into the issues that affect assisted living access, caregiver recruitment and long-term care options.

Homestead Heights is also keeping up its public presence. Its second annual fundraiser is planned for Aug. 15, 2026, with food, fun, fellowship and an auction of donated items. The project was first described as a proposed senior living community in Limestone Township and linked to a $12 million development effort by the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, based in Homeworth, Ohio.

For now, the building is complete and the tours are open. The next milestone is the assisted living license, which will determine how quickly Homestead Heights can move from construction and visits to full residential care for older adults in and around New Berlin.
