League of Women Voters Forum to Examine Union County's Updated Comprehensive Plan
A free forum on March 17 will tackle whether Union County could host data centers or warehouses, and how farmland and housing can be protected under the county's updated plan.
Questions about data centers, warehouse sprawl, farmland protection, and housing availability will take center stage when the League of Women Voters of the Lewisburg Area hosts "Shaping Union County's Future," a free public presentation on Union County's recently updated Comprehensive Plan, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17, at the Public Library for Union County Community Room, 255 Reitz Boulevard in Lewisburg. Doors open at 3:30 p.m.
Shawn McLaughlin, a certified planner with the Union County Department of Economic Development, will lead the presentation, outlining the vision, priorities, and strategies contained in the updated plan. The Comprehensive Plan functions as a long-range framework guiding land use, infrastructure planning, economic development, and quality-of-life initiatives across the county.
The program will address how demographic changes, housing trends, and economic development pressures are reshaping Union County's future. Topics will include questions many residents are already raising: how growth will be managed, whether Union County may host large-scale projects such as data centers or warehouse developments, and how concerns about traffic, farmland preservation, and housing availability can be addressed under the updated framework.

The event is produced and sponsored by the League of Women Voters of the Lewisburg Area as part of its ongoing educational forum series, and is open to League members, elected officials, and community members alike at no charge.
