Lewisburg Borough carried out concentrated snow removal efforts last weekend that required strict no-parking enforcement on borough streets, a step officials said was necessary to clear parking lanes safely and restore normal traffic flow. Borough Public Works crews used heavy equipment and multiple dump trucks to plow and haul snow, and the Buffalo Valley Regional Police Department monitored and enforced temporary parking restrictions.

The Borough announced a phased removal plan before the storm and moved forward with clearing travel lanes on Sunday, January 25 and Monday, January 26. Market Street was targeted overnight; crews worked between 12:01 am and 7:00 am on Tuesday, January 27 to remove snow from the curb-to-curb parking lane. Market Street parking is always prohibited between midnight and 7:00 am, and the Borough reiterated that rule during the operation.

After the Market Street work, crews continued clearing parking lanes on Tuesday, January 27 from 7:00 am to noon on Third Street, Fourth Street, Fifth Street, Loomis Street, University Avenue, and Walker Street. Operations then moved through additional neighborhoods: Sixth Street through St. Catharine Street segments were scheduled for Wednesday, January 28; St. Louis Street, St. Catharine Street from Front Street to Seventh Street, St. George Street, Malcolm Street, Barton Street, Mill Street, and Taylor Street were planned for Thursday, January 29 between 7:00 am and noon. Friday, January 30 was set for St. John Street, St. Mary Street, St. Anthony Street, Beck Street, and streets west of U.S. Route 15. A final pass for Water Street, Front Street, Second Street, Brown Street, and St. George Street from Front Street to Second Street was scheduled for Monday, February 2 from 7:00 am to noon.

Borough officials explained that parking lane snow removal is a complex, multi-step process that requires several passes of equipment to clear and apply salt. For that reason residents were asked not to re-park on cleared streets until directed by Borough staff. Motorists traveling through work areas were urged to obey temporary road closures, watch for workers, and stay alert for any schedule changes.

For Union County drivers and residents who park on borough streets, the operations underscore the need to monitor vehicle locations and move cars in advance of scheduled clearings. Lewisburg Borough said it would post updates on its Facebook page if plans change. Expect continued daytime lane work through the end of January and occasional overnight restrictions on key corridors as crews finish removing and hauling storm snow.
