Lewisburg Updates Downtown Parking: Thursday Restrictions and Lot 6 Permit-Only

Lewisburg Borough changed rules for three downtown municipal parking lots, imposing Thursday morning parking prohibitions in two lots and converting Municipal Parking Lot 6 to permit-only use seven days a week. The changes, announced January 23 and effective immediately, aim to allow maintenance, cleaning and snow, leaf and debris removal when necessary.

Municipal Parking Lot 4 (MPL4) and Municipal Parking Lot 5 (MPL5) are now subject to parking prohibitions every Thursday from 7:00 am to noon. MPL4 is the half paved, half gravel lot located north of Market Street between North Seventh Street and Limestone/Bull Run, behind Brendan’s Towne Tavern. MPL5 is the gravel lot north of Market Street between Limestone/Bull Run and North Fifth Street at Piers Art Park. The Thursday clearance window is intended to facilitate routine maintenance and seasonal cleanup without parked vehicles blocking crews.

Municipal Parking Lot 6 (MPL6), situated north of Market Street between North Third Street and North Second Street, has been reclassified as reserved for Lewisburg Borough parking permit holders seven days a week. MPL6 is no longer open for general parking on Saturdays and Sundays. The borough reports a limited number of permits remain available for purchase through the Lewisburg Borough Office.

For drivers who use downtown parking for work, errands, dining or visiting attractions, the changes will require adjusted routines. Employees who previously relied on MPL6 for weekend shifts may need to acquire a permit or move to alternative lots. Weekend visitors who parked in MPL6 for events or leisure will need to find other public or private parking. Thursday morning restrictions in MPL4 and MPL5 mean vehicles left overnight on Wednesday may be ticketed or towed if they remain in place during the noon maintenance window.

Signage at each municipal lot should reflect the new restrictions; residents and visitors should watch for posted notices and allow extra time for parking when planning downtown trips.

The immediate change underscores an effort to keep downtown Market Street corridors clean and safe while managing limited parking inventory. Residents and business owners should review where they park and consider securing an MPL6 permit if weekend access is important, or shift to other municipal or private options as enforcement continues.
