Linntown Intermediate Hosts 36 Professionals to Broaden Students' Career Horizons

Thirty-six professionals walked into Linntown Intermediate School with one assignment: show students what it actually takes to build a career.

The Lewisburg Area School District's annual career day drew representatives spanning trades, health care, public service, business, and other fields to meet directly with intermediate-grade students. Each professional described not only their daily work but the education and training required to reach it, giving students a ground-level view of what different career paths genuinely demand.

The district framed the event as a community partnership centered on broadening student perspectives. The underlying goal was practical: connect what students encounter in the classroom with real-world possibilities and introduce them to careers they may not have previously considered. For a district of Lewisburg Area's size, a career day drawing 36 professionals represents a significant mobilization of community expertise, offering students the kind of direct exposure that is difficult to replicate through curriculum alone.

The school posted about the event on March 23, describing it as an effort to open students' eyes to the full range of career options and the varied routes those options require. The breadth of fields represented, from skilled trades to health care to public service, reflects a deliberate effort to show students that viable careers extend well beyond the paths most commonly discussed in school settings.

The career day fell just days before the Lewisburg Area School District board meeting, held March 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the high school's DiRocco Center for Instruction. The district posted its meeting notice on March 24, making the agenda available for advance review and allowing residents to participate in person or online. A form was also provided for community members who wished to submit written comments on agenda or non-agenda items before the meeting convened.
