Mifflinburg blanks Lewisburg 10-0 with big sixth inning
Mifflinburg broke Lewisburg open in the sixth and finished a 10-0, six-inning shutout that kept its late-April surge rolling.

Mifflinburg turned a rivalry game into a rout in the sixth inning, scoring the burst that sent the Wildcats past Lewisburg 10-0 in six innings and gave Ron Hernandez little to second-guess in Heartland Athletic Conference-II softball.
The victory, played Tuesday, April 28, in Union County and reflected on the April 29 scoreboard, was the kind that does more than add another line to the record. It showed Mifflinburg could wait out a close game, then break it open late, finish fast and keep Lewisburg off the board for the full six innings. PHAC’s scoreboard listed the result as 10-0, and MaxPreps recorded the Lewisburg varsity team’s loss by the same score.
For Mifflinburg Area High School, the shutout fit a sharp stretch of play at the end of April. The Wildcats had already beaten Loyalsock 10-0 in five innings on April 18 and followed that with a 16-0 win over Milton on April 21, making the Lewisburg result look less like an outlier and more like another step in a strong run. That kind of run matters in the Heartland Athletic Conference-II, where one lopsided win can strengthen a team’s standing as much as its confidence.
Lewisburg Area High School came in having just dropped an 8-7 game to Shamokin on April 23, and the Wildcats made sure the Green Dragons never found an answer. The shutout gave Mifflinburg a clean finish in a matchup that always carries extra weight in Union County, where school lines cross through neighborhoods, families and student circles as much as they do through box scores.
Hernandez’s team did not merely win; it controlled the game enough to end it early, a sign that the Wildcats are playing with the kind of balance that can turn a good week into conference momentum. If Mifflinburg keeps producing results like this, the question in Union County is no longer whether the Wildcats can compete, but whether they are emerging as one of the league’s real contenders.
