Two Women Charged With Felony Theft After Five Incidents at Lewisburg Giant

Keri S. Bailey, 49, of Park Avenue in Williamsport, and Danielle L. Wertz, 38, of Weaver Street in Montoursville, were charged with two counts of felony retail theft each after Buffalo Valley Regional Police say the pair repeatedly stole from the Giant grocery store on Hardwood Drive in Lewisburg over a span of several months.

Investigators allege the two women, both third-party employees at the Lewisburg Giant, carried out five separate theft incidents between November and January, collectively taking nearly $1,500 worth of merchandise from the store where they worked.

Buffalo Valley Regional Police Detective Bradley Miller filed the charges in the Lewisburg office of District Judge Jeffrey Rowe. The employment relationship that gave Bailey and Wertz access to the store is notable: both are described as third-party employees rather than direct Giant corporate staff, though the exact nature of their contracting arrangement has not been detailed by police.

The charges represent felonies under Pennsylvania law, a threshold typically reached in retail theft cases when the value of allegedly stolen merchandise crosses a certain dollar amount or involves repeat offenses. With nearly $1,500 alleged across five incidents, prosecutors will likely argue both the aggregate value and the pattern of conduct in pursuing the felony designation.
