Del Rio Girls Powerlifting Claims Three State Titles, Finishes Third Overall
Gabby Diaz broke two state records and Kailyn Lomas won her third straight title as Del Rio powerlifting put three champions on the podium that no other school could match.

Three state champions on one team. No other school at the Texas High School Women's Powerlifting State Meet in Edinburg could claim that on March 18, and Del Rio head coach David Gomez Jr. made a point of noting it after his program walked away with three individual titles and a third-place finish in the team standings.
Senior Kailyn Lomas captured the 105-pound division for her third consecutive state championship, posting a combined total of 865 pounds and a squat of 365 pounds that set a new state record in the weight class. Lomas, who previously won a title at 97 pounds, closes out her prep career as one of the most decorated female student-athletes Del Rio High School has produced.
Gabby Diaz delivered the meet's most statistically dominant performance in the 114-pound class, totaling 965 pounds and setting state records in both the squat at 385 pounds and the deadlift at 365 pounds. Those marks represent a 30-pound improvement on the squat and a 65-pound jump on the deadlift from the prior year, gains that reflect serious off-season development under Gomez Jr.'s coaching staff.

Aniah Gonzales completed Del Rio's three-title sweep by winning the 97-pound division with a combined total of 730 pounds, a performance that secured the program's clean run across three separate weight classes.
The third-place team finish reflects program depth beyond any single lifter. Gomez Jr. noted that no other school at the meet had three state champions, a distinction that speaks to how consistently Del Rio develops elite competitors across multiple weight classes rather than building around a single standout athlete.

Lomas's record squat in the 105-pound division now stands as the state benchmark future Texas competitors will need to surpass, a lasting mark from a senior who spent four years at the top of the sport.
