Del Rio Man from Colombia Faces Aggravated Assault, Burglary Charges
Erik Cordoba Obregon, a Colombian national living in Del Rio, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and burglary.

A Colombian national residing in Del Rio faces charges of aggravated assault with a weapon and burglary, an arrest that drew attention from U.S. Rep. Chip Roy as part of his broader criticism of federal immigration policy.
Erik Cordoba Obregon was arrested in Del Rio on the two charges, according to reporting that described him as an illegal immigrant from Colombia. The arresting agency, incident date, victim details, bond amount, and court docket number were not immediately available in public records. The Val Verde County Sheriff's Office and Del Rio Police Department have not released a formal statement on the case.
Rep. Chip Roy highlighted the arrest and described the incident as underscoring ongoing concerns about crime linked to immigration in the area. Roy also called for pausing all immigration, though the full context of that statement was not available in materials reviewed for this report.
The Obregon case is among a cluster of immigration-related arrests across the Western District of Texas tied to Operation Take Back America, a nationwide Department of Justice initiative targeting illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas. That district covers 68 counties and shares a 660-mile border with Mexico.
Several other arrests connected to the operation span the region. Near Eagle Pass, Fredy Alberto Guevara-Maldonado, a Honduran national, was arrested and allegedly resisted arrest while assaulting a U.S. Border Patrol canine and its handler. In Del Rio, Stephane Mujinga Elonga, a Congo national with prior deportations and convictions for assault and DUI, was charged with illegal re-entry.
Near Maverick County, Rene Lima-Morales, from El Salvador, was arrested with a reported history of aggravated sexual assault and other crimes. Eduardo Henrrique Castron, a Honduran national, was also arrested near Maverick following a previous deportation tied to a conviction for second-degree criminal sexual conduct. Charbel Majluf Vargas-Felix, a Mexican national, was charged with smuggling after allegedly guiding a group of people across the Rio Grande River.
In Bexar County, Santos Gabriel Bustillo-Zelaya, also known as Santos Gabriel Gonzalez, was turned over to ICE following his release from the Bexar County Adult Detention Center. His record includes multiple convictions for improper entry and other offenses. Sergio Lugo-Rodriguez, another Mexican national, was arrested in Bexar County during a traffic stop and carries a reported history of failing to stop and render aid.
In Austin, Juan Jose Esparza Garcia and Benigno Granados Manzano, both Mexican nationals with multiple prior removals and DWI convictions, were each charged with illegal re-entry. Ivan Perez-Saldana, a Mexican national with a reported history of domestic assault and improper entry, was found in Travis County Jail.
Charging documents, booking records, and next court dates for each individual named in the operation had not been made publicly available at the time of this report. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas has not responded to requests for the full Operation Take Back America press release or official comment.
