Del Rio Rams win second straight district golf title, advance to regionals
Isaac and Isaiah Diaz led Del Rio to its second straight district crown, with Isaac’s fourth straight individual title sending the Rams back to regionals in San Antonio.

Isaac Diaz kept putting Del Rio golf on the map, and his younger brother made sure the Rams stayed there.
Behind a one-two punch from Isaac Diaz and Isaiah Diaz, Del Rio won its second straight District 30-6A boys golf championship in Laredo and advanced to the regional tournament at Cedar Creek Golf Course in San Antonio. Isaac finished as the district gold medalist, Isaiah claimed silver, and the Rams used another steady team performance to reinforce one of the strongest competitive runs in Del Rio High School athletics.
Del Rio opened with a 305 on the first day, with Isaac Diaz shooting a 72 and Isaiah Diaz carding a one-over-par 73. Ethan Jurado and Juan Pablo Cortez each added an 80, while Alan Guadiana posted a 105 to complete the team total. On the second day, the Rams trimmed six strokes off their score and closed out the title, showing the kind of consistency that has turned the program into a yearly contender under head coach Oscar Cardenas.
Isaac Diaz delivered the day’s sharpest round when it mattered most, firing a three-under 69 for a two-day total of 141. That gave him his fourth straight individual district championship and continued a dominant stretch that now includes three straight district titles in 2025 and 2026 after he also won in 2024. Isaiah Diaz followed with a 75 on the final day to finish at 148, while Jurado surged into third place overall with a 72 and a 152 total. Cortez finished at 163, and Guadiana cut 14 strokes from one day to the next to end at 196.

The repeat title carried more than scoreboard value for Del Rio and Val Verde County. It gave the Rams another chance to put the city in the regional spotlight in a sport that rarely draws the same attention as Friday night football, but has become a reliable source of local pride. Jurado, Cortez and Isaac Diaz were also part of last year’s district championship team, and Jurado had finished second a year ago, underscoring how much veteran experience is driving the program’s rise.
Del Rio’s next stop was regionals April 15-16, with Isaac Diaz again chasing a trip to state after a weather-shortened postseason last year altered the path for golfers across the UIL landscape. In 2025, he was the only Ram to advance from regionals after placing ninth at the Region IV-6A tournament at Silverhorn Golf Course in San Antonio, then went on to tie for 19th at state.
