Del Rio, Uvalde Track Teams Meet at the Honey Bowl March 26

Uvalde and Del Rio will square off in a dual-team track-and-field meet at the Honey Bowl on Thursday, March 26, with field events set to begin at 2:30 p.m. and running events to follow.

Both programs arrive at the meet carrying fresh results from the March 18 Devine Relays. The Lobos finished third in the girls varsity division with 108 points and swept all three relay events. The Coyotes placed sixth in the boys varsity division with 47 points.

The Uvalde girls relay squads were the standout performers at Devine. Lila Hill, Layni Smaistrla, Hannah Hughes, and Amilee Pulido won the 4-by-100-meter relay in 50.540 seconds. Jazlin Duron, Claire Gruben, Smaistrla, and Pulido then claimed the 4-by-200-meter relay in 1:48.709. Duron, Abigail Quinones, Kaylee Garcia, and Gruben closed out the relay sweep by winning the 4-by-400-meter relay in 4:21.156. Pulido also placed first in the 200-meter dash as part of a three-medal effort for UHS in that event.

On the boys side, Grant Williams, Garrett Graves, Owen Hughes, and Andruw Ramos finished fifth in the 4-by-200-meter relay with a time of 1:33.601. Zak Velasquez ran 11.720 seconds for fifth place in the 100-meter dash. Ramos placed sixth in the 400-meter dash in 52.559 seconds, while Velasquez, Carlos Contreras, Hughes, and Jett Flores took sixth in the 4-by-100-meter relay at 44.125 seconds.

The March 26 dual meet is one of three competitive stops in a tight two-week stretch for Uvalde. Following the Honey Bowl, the Uvaldeans travel to the Cotulla Relays on April 1 before the District 27-4A track-and-field meet at Somerset on April 9.
