Val Verde County Hosts First Easter Egg Hunt at Faz Annex
Commissioner Juan Carlos Vazquez drew more than 100 children to the Faz Annex for Val Verde County's first Easter egg hunt, with golden egg prizes and a push to sign up for the branch library.

More than 100 children and their families packed the courtyard at the Judge Antonio "Tony" Faz County Annex on April 2, turning 315 E. Chapoy St. into Val Verde County's newest Easter tradition.
Commissioner Juan Carlos Vazquez of Precinct 2 organized the event alongside his staff and the precinct work crew, who scattered eggs throughout the annex courtyard and coordinated prize distribution. Tucked among the standard eggs were a small number of golden eggs carrying extra prizes, sending children scrambling across the grounds while parents snapped photographs.
The gathering featured children in bunny ears, bilingual greetings in English and Spanish, and volunteers handing out prizes in what marked the first Easter egg hunt ever held at the Faz Annex. Vazquez greeted attendees and said he plans to make the event annual, with expanded programming in future years.
The afternoon doubled as a civic outreach opportunity. Vazquez and his staff encouraged families to register their children for membership at the county branch library, which is housed at the Chapoy Street annex and holds more than 5,000 books along with computer access. For many attending families, the egg hunt offered a first introduction to the library's presence at the location.

The bilingual welcome reflected the practical reality of Del Rio's community events: Spanish and English rang across the courtyard as organizers guided children through the egg hunt and pointed parents toward county services. The precinct office used the holiday foot traffic to connect residents with public resources in a setting that felt more like a neighborhood celebration than a government outreach function.
With Vazquez signaling a return engagement next year and plans to grow the programming, the Faz Annex courtyard may become a recurring springtime gathering point for Del Rio families.
