Los Lunas Police Seek Armed Suspect After Non-Fatal Shooting Near Highway 47
A noon shooting at Main Street NE and Highway 47 left one person with a head wound as police hunt armed suspect Nicholas Gurule, 25; a second person was arrested on three felony charges.

One person was hospitalized Thursday with a gunshot wound to the head after multiple 911 callers reported gunfire near Main Street NE and New Mexico Highway 47 in Los Lunas, and the man police are seeking in connection with the shooting remains at large and armed.
Los Lunas officers responded around noon. Detectives later determined the victim suffered a non-life-threatening wound and is expected to recover.
Police identified the wanted suspect as Nicholas Gurule, 25, a Los Lunas resident standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 265 pounds with brown eyes. The Los Lunas Police Department described Gurule as armed and dangerous and warned the public not to approach him under any circumstances.
While the search continues, investigators made at least one arrest during the response. A person, whose name police have not released, faces felony charges including tampering with evidence, conspiracy to commit shooting at or from a motor vehicle, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Police have not confirmed whether that person and Gurule are the same individual or two separate people connected to the incident.
To report a sighting of Gurule, call the Valencia Regional Emergency Communications Center non-emergency line at 505-865-9130 or the Los Lunas Police Department tip line at 505-839-5646. Those who prefer to stay anonymous can submit information through the StopIt app using access code loslunaspd.
Several questions remain unanswered. Police have not announced Gurule's last known location, any vehicle he may be associated with, or the name of the person arrested on felony charges. The identity and current condition of the shooting victim have not been made public. Until police account for Gurule, the Los Lunas Police Department has asked residents to report sightings immediately rather than act. The department confirmed only that the case is under active investigation.
