A months-long federal enforcement sweep that pulled in the Valencia County Sheriff's Office alongside 15 other agencies wrapped up February 28 with 920 arrests, 59 firearms seized, and more than a kilogram of methamphetamine removed from New Mexico streets.

Operation Triple Beam–Shadow Break, led by the U.S. Marshals Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (SWIFT), ran from November 3, 2025 through February 28, 2026. The 17-week operation targeted violent fugitives, firearm-related offenders, and narcotics traffickers concentrated in Albuquerque and the surrounding region. By its conclusion, investigators had cleared 1,076 warrants and recovered 37 vehicles in addition to the arrests and gun seizures.

The narcotics haul was precise and substantial: 1,032.35 grams of methamphetamine, 718.03 grams of cocaine, and 110.10 grams of fentanyl. Federal charges were brought against five individuals, with more potentially forthcoming as cases are filed.

"The success of Operation Triple Beam–Shadow Break reflects the strength of the partnerships across New Mexico," said David Barnett, U.S. Marshal for the District of New Mexico. "I am incredibly proud of all our law enforcement partners who have worked so tirelessly over the past four months. While this operation has concluded, our work together continues."

FBI Deputy Director Andrew Bailey attended a press conference held the week of March 17 and offered pointed praise for one field office in particular. "I cannot be more proud of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office for its fierce dedication and relentless commitment to these principles," Bailey said. "Operation Triple Beam-Shadow Break was a coordinated multi-agency fugitive apprehension effort and its results speak for themselves."

The operation drew together an unusually broad coalition. Federal partners included the FBI, ATF, DEA, Homeland Security Investigations, and the U.S. Attorney's Office. On the state and local side, the Albuquerque Police Department, New Mexico State Police, Bernalillo, Sandoval, Torrance, and Valencia County Sheriff's Offices all contributed, along with the Estancia and Edgewood Police Departments, the New Mexico Corrections Department, and the Office of the 2nd Judicial District Attorney.

New Mexico Department of Public Safety Secretary Jason Bowie used the press conference to raise a pointed concern beyond the operation's results, expressing frustration with the legislature over the lack of crime bills being heard during session. His remarks underscored a tension that persisted even as agencies celebrated the operation's numbers: law enforcement officials from every agency present said the work is not finished.
