Valencia County Officials Announce Week of Key Governance Meetings
On Dec. 30 agencies across Valencia County published draft agendas for a series of public meetings this week that address appointments, personnel actions, land use and county governance procedures. These items - from swearing-in ceremonies and school board reorganization to considerations of the Open Meetings Act and a Peralta community center renovation - could affect local services, public participation and development.

Valencia County government bodies released draft agendas Dec. 30 outlining a cluster of meetings between Dec. 31 and Jan. 8 that carry immediate implications for local leadership, public access to government and planned projects.
The Valencia County Commission will meet at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 in the commission chambers at the county administration building, 444 Luna Ave. SE, Los Lunas. The commission agenda centers on the appointment of a commission chairperson and includes wide-ranging governance items: consideration of parliamentary procedures and Robert’s Rules of Order, public participation at commission meetings, the Open Meetings Act and the Inspection of Public Records Act. Commissioners will also consider signature authority on checks, establishing depositories, delegating authority to the county manager as lawful custodian of county buildings and property, establishing employee work hours and paid holidays, delegation of a capital outlay grant agreement No. 25-J5993 and consideration of that grant agreement itself. Reports from committees and the Detention Center and a presentation from the N.M. Department of Transportation are also scheduled.
Belen City Council is meeting tonight, Monday, Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at Belen City Hall, 100 S. Main St., Belen, with a swearing-in ceremony for elected officials and immediate consideration of a slate of appointments. The council agenda includes an executive session on appointed positions, nomination of a mayor pro-tem, and consideration of appointments to city manager, city clerk/treasurer and fire chief positions. The council will also consider affirmation of all city employees, oaths for appointed positions, a city manager’s report and communications from the council.
The Los Lunas Board of Education will hold a special meeting Tuesday, Jan. 6 with a swearing-in at 5:45 p.m. and a 6 p.m. session in the central office boardroom, 119 Luna Ave. SE, Los Lunas. The meeting is focused on board reorganization and includes committee appointments and consideration of a board of education scholarship. On Wednesday, Jan. 7 the Los Lunas Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a 6 p.m. public hearing in the council chambers at Los Lunas Village Hall, 660 Main St. SW, on a minor subdivision for Daniel Romero at the southwest corner of Crownover and N.M. 314, along with election of commission officers and code enforcement updates.

Peralta Town Council will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7 in the council chambers at Peralta Town Hall, 90-A Molina Road, Peralta, to discuss selection of a contractor for renovation of the Peralta Community Center and to consider reappointments of town officials, bank signature authorities for UNB accounts, a two-year contract for the town attorney and schedules for the 2026 Open Meetings Act and Robert’s Rules of Order. A Belen City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission subdivision workshop is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 at Belen City Hall to review sketch plats including Tract: 75C S: 12 T: 5N R: 1E ACCOUNT NUMBER:R076411 and Tract: 75B2 S: 7 T: 5N R: 2E (4.60 acres) and Tract 77A3 S: 13 T: 5N R: 1E (0.97 acre).
The Valencia Soil and Water Conservation District Board of Supervisors met at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31 at the Whitfield Wildlife Conservation Area visitor’s center, 2424 N.M. 47, with agenda items that included consideration of an interim promotion, a resignation, public comment and an executive session to discuss personnel matters and pending litigation.
